But I have to say I genuinely respect the skills of PS users. My son who used the Adobe Suite in his business for years switched to Affinity recently. Part of the technological maturing process I think we see at Microsoft and in hardware at Intel. (pun intended) But I also am aware that Adobe has had its troubles lately and seems to be caught in the cycle of overly complex development to hang on to their income stream. I can well understand that highly skilled PS people won't settle for anything less - I would be the same if I had had an affinity for for it. So I have settled for Affinity Photo and the obviously lesser Pixelmator for my photos. In contrast, Corel Draw, an early vector graphics program, was remarkably easy for me to learn. I'm generally good with learning computer programs, but I always found PS opaque. I'm an old film photographer who never could get into PS. I see there are quite strong opinions both ways for PD and AP - not surprising. Improved performance with panorama stitching, defringing, adjustment layers, heavily layered documents, converting ICC profiles and more.Further, X-Trans sensor support has been added. Improved astrophotography editing thanks to the ability to edit stacked image names and the option to stack images for different filters simultaneously.Installing & Using DxO Nik Collection 2018 with Affinity Photo - YouTube. Improved lens corrections for Canon, Tamron and Sigma lenses BASICS of Color Efex Pro 4 / Affinity Photo Nik Collection Plug-in - YouTube.Improved IME text editing for Japanese and simplified Chinese languages. It also works very smoothly on a slightly older machine (late 2013 iMac) with no noticeable lag or hiccup whatsoever. On both platforms, Affinity Photo version 1.10.0 includes: Affinity Photo is pretty full-featured and sports an uncluttered appearance and super-fast rendering it handles very large files with ease, especially since its 1.10 update. Serif has published patch notes for macOS and Windows that go into further detail. Key Features: RAW editing supports most raw files. It is feature-packed, powerful, and affordable. The major optimizations include memory management in Affinity Publisher, the rendering engine in Affinity Designer and layer efficiency in Affinity Photo. 34.00 LEARN AFFINITY PHOTO NOW With Affinity Photo, the British software firm Serif has made an incredible application for photographers who wants control over the images editing process. There are more, but like Pixelmator Im just not familiar with them. All of them very affordable and have a ton of tutorials on YouTube. Other options might be On1 Photo Raw or Luminar. Serif calls Affinity 1.10 its biggest performance update ever and that because the improvements are being made to the core codebase, all users will benefit. Affinity is supposed to be very close to Photoshop. The 88SS1074 is a four-channel controller, and the main reason for the change is so that it can support the new 3D NAND Crucial is using. If you have any questions, remarks or just want to show off your results, please comment below! bug Crucial Crucial Storage Executive glitch M.The controller has changed from the MX200 days, having been upgraded to a newer Marvell model. There is no doubt that Crucial will pick up on this soon enough, coming out with an update that restricts caching to solely crucial drives, and removing this version. Last but not least, our advice is to download this software soonest. Crucial Storage Executive 17.04 (found at this link). In sum, if you want to try this, all you need is the following: Thus, it is recommended to have a UPS or some sort of battery-backed power source in place before enabling and we do not take responsibility for any data loss that may occur. Furthermore, as a disclaimer, doing this is not officially not supported and due to the volatile nature of DRAM, data could be lost upon an unexpected power outage. Also, it seems if you use a proprietary driver for your non-Crucial NVMe SSD, it disables your ability to use the feature. To explore this bug’s range of compatibility a little more, we took out our Kingston Hyper X Predator (a non-NVMe based PCIe SSD, but rather AHCI based) to see if we could enable momentum cache on it, and low and behold, we were unable to. Remember, the key to getting NVMe SSDs to work on Crucial Momentum is simply having a compatible Crucial SSD in the system to activate the software. As you can see in the before (left) and after (right) screenshots above and below, that is a good thing for us. With such a diverse array of controller/firmware combinations, it seems that the programmers didn’t lock down how this program’s feature interacts with NVMe SSD devices. So far, we have tested Momentum Caching on a fair amount of NVMe SSDs, including the Toshiba OCZ RD400, Phison E7 based NVMe SSDs, Intel 600P, Intel 750 Series, Samsung 950 Pro, Samsung 960 EVO, WD Black SSD, and Plextor M8Se. Not only can its features be used on Crucial SATA SSDs, but also quite a few other SSDs, NVMe SSDs to be exact. After installing the latest free version of Crucial Momentum, version, 17.04, it looks like we have stumbled upon a little bug. To read more about it, check out their white paper here.Ĭrucial Storage Executive is compatible with their MX, BX, and M500 and M550 series SSDs (all of which we reviewed), but this short list isn’t the be-all and end-all list of compatibility it seems. This is how Samsung Magician’s RAPID mode works with select Samsung SSDs. Thus, you are able to unlock faster compute performance at the expense of using up a bit more RAM space than normal. When utilized many reads and writes will be read from/sent to the RAM cache before the SSD. This means that when enabled, it provides for more performance out of your system’s storage. Momentum Cache, the subject of today’s post, is a RAM cache feature. The key here is, as long as the Crucial drive is there initially, the software works on any number of NVMe SSDs.įor those of you who haven’t read over a recent Crucial SSD review, or aren’t in the know when it comes to storage, Crucial’s Storage Executive is their SSD software suite that is packed with features that allow you to monitor and manage your Crucial, and other SSDs. Remove the Crucial SSD and Crucial Momentum will still cache the OCZ RD400 NVMe SSD. When we install Crucial Storage Executive on the system with a Crucial MX300 installed as well, Crucial Momentum will work on just about any NVMe SSD. Crucial’s Momentum Cache feature, part of Crucial Storage Executive, is unlocked for all NVMe SSDs, or at least the ones we have tested in our Z170 test system the keyhere, of course, is that a compatible Crucial SSD must initially be on the system to enable this feature at all. While many RAM caching softwares exist, no other SSD manufacturer has yet to enable RAM caching for NVMe SSDs in quite the way Crucial has. This is the first time we are exploring RAM caching on an NVMe SSD in this fashion. The player controls one of several taxi drivers in a fictional city, looking for fares and then taking them to their destination in the fastest time possible. It's clear that Sonos spent a great deal of time trying to achieve the level of user friendliness that Apple is known for, because setup was a breeze. For instance, after we frequently used the remote for one day, its battery charge was nearly halfway depleted. But with no front panel controls on the ZonePlayers, the system will live or die by the controller's battery life. For its part, Sonos insists that the battery will last at least five years. One other nitpick: the controller's built-in rechargeable battery isn't removable, which could spell trouble down the road. Likewise, the iPod-white color scheme may be stylish, but we'd love to see a basic black version. For instance, both the ZP80 and ZP100 base stations are unusually boxy-they won't match the any of the other components in your home audio system. The overall look and feel of the Sonos is great, and the controller's interface is downright superlative. The ZP80s, which retail for $349 each, can be connected to any device with auxiliary inputs, and-unlike the analog-only ZP100-they'll connect via coaxial and optical digital inputs as well. It's worth repeating our aforementioned advice: If you plan on installing a ZonePlayer where you already have an acceptable amplifier-an A/V receiver, stereo, or even a tabletop radio-you should consider the $1,000 Z80 bundle, which includes the same excellent wireless remote but pairs it with two smaller ZP80 base stations. It sports two pairs of high-quality speaker binding posts, analog stereo inputs and outputs (plus a subwoofer output), and a built-in four-port Ethernet switch. About the size of an Xbox, Sonos designed it to be smaller than a typical stereo component (it measures 10.2 by 8.2 by 4.4 inches), so it would fit into spots that a typical component won't. The nearly button-free ZonePlayer, which houses a full-fledged 50-watt-per-channel amplifier and weighs 10 pounds with a die-cast, matte-aluminum enclosure, feels like a mini tank. Take one look at the silver-and-white color scheme (and that scroll wheel on the remote), and you get the idea that Sonos wants you to think that its understatedly sleek components would fit right into Apple's iPod line-and they would. (The bundle price of $1,200 represents a savings of about $200 over the cost of purchasing them separately.) The components aren't cheap-a single ZonePlayer goes for $499, while the remote comes in at $399-but they definitely have solid build quality. The original one, reviewed here, consists of two ZP100 ZonePlayers and the CR100 controller, a high-tech wireless remote with a sharp color screen and a touch-pad scroll wheel that's the secret sauce in this package. The Sonos Digital Music System is available in multiple configurations. But there are still plenty of folks out there who like the idea of having a ZonePlayer that can be connected to-and will power-a pair of speakers on its own. For that crowd, Sonos now offers the Z80 bundle (a.k.a. If this system has a weakness, it's that that the company's original ZonePlayer, the ZP100-two of which are included with this bundle along with a CR100 remote-has a built-in amp that's overkill for buyers who already count an amplifier or an A/V receiver as part of their existing music systems. So why has little Sonos, a start-up based in Santa Barbara, managed to attract so much attention for its relatively expensive audio-only Digital Music System? Well, because it's essentially the product everybody's been hoping Apple would make: a simple, elegant solution to streaming hard-drive-based music to multiple rooms via a series of networked ZonePlayer base stations and a sleek command module. In the last couple of years, several companies have introduced digital audio receivers or media servers that enable you to stream music-and sometimes images and video-from your PC or Mac to a stereo, a TV, or a set of speakers in another room. But if you already count an amplifier or an A/V receiver as part of your existing music system, the ampless Sonos ZP80 bundle is a better bet. This, the original Sonos Digital Music System, is still a very slick solution for affordably distributing your music throughout your house.
